Certification is required for any individual performing lead based paint activities in the State of Michigan. To become certified one must complete an approved training course. Myleadtraining.com offers an approved training course for lead workers and lead supervisors initial training and the lead supervisor refresher training. Myleadtraining.com also offers the EPA Certified Renovator courses. The EPA is requiring certification as a Certified Renovator for any contractor working on a dwelling built before 1978 or a child occupied facility built before 1978 beginning April 22, 2010. The Certified Renovator Refresher course is for individuals who are currently certified as a lead worker or lead supervisor with the State of Michigan.The Certified Renovator's firm must also be Certified. Beginning July 6, 2010 contractors must give the homeowner a report following completion of the renovation and can use the EPA's renovator sample checklist: sample

Negotiations between the Michigan Association of Home Builders and the Bureau of Commercial Services have resulted in an agreement to allow EPA-approved lead classes offered by an EPA-approved instructor taken after January 1, 2009 to count toward meeting the Continuing Competency requirements for renewal in 2012 and result in continuing education credit, regardless of the provider. The Michigan Department of Community Health and Michigan's Kresge Foundation have teamed up to provide low cost lead training to people working in the construction and building maintenance fields.The stipend application can be downloaded at http://www.mich.gov/documents/Public_Training_Application_139125_7.pdf. Please send your application in to the State as soon as possible if you are interested in this stipend as the funds diminish quickly. If you qualify this stipend can help reduce your costs for training.
